Norfolk Botanical Gardens Field Trip

Last week, I got to chaperone one of Hayden’s high school field trips with his Digital Photography class.  It was a mild and beautiful day!  And although it was a little early in the spring to fully appreciate all that there is to see at the Norfolk Botanical Gardens, it was still a great time to enjoy all of the beautiful flowering trees and blooming bulbs.

The Japanese Cherry Blossom trees looked so pretty and smelled incredibly sweet, and I think that was my favorite find of the day!  The kids in my group also loved the man-made native bee habitat I found.  They got some great photos of bees going in and out of it.  The rest of the kids were just plain afraid of the bees!  LOL

I just used my little old Fuji Finepix 16MP compact digital camera.  But Hayden took the fancy Nikkon camera he got for Christmas.  It’s not quite as fancy as the ones the school gives them to use, but they didn’t have enough of them to go around that day, so he used his personal camera.  He really took some amazing photos, and he built a website to showcase his photos as an assignment for the class.  Check it out!

We went up and sat on top of the hill around the gardens to eat our lunch and watch the planes taking off and landing on the runway adjacent to it.  That was pretty cool.  The day was overcast, but the rain managed to hold off for the most part until we got back to the school.  Haylee and Holden got to come along, as well, and we all got to ride on the school bus with Hayden’s class.  That was a first-time experience for the two of them, so it added to the fun of the day for them.

If you’re ever in the area, it’s definitely worthwhile to stop by and spend some time meandering through the gardens, enjoying all the beauty it has to offer.
